Learn diagnostic, treatment pearls at ‘Grand Rounds’

0728-Grand RoundsA Summer Meeting tradition of more than 20 years will continue Friday when pearls of diagnosis and management will be shared through case studies during the interactive session “Dermatology Grand Rounds: Case-Based Dilemmas” (S005).

The session will feature faculty members who will present cases and discuss them with the audience through an audience response system, said Jeffrey Phillip Callen, MD, course director.

The session was introduced to the Summer Meeting in the 1990s when the logistics of visiting hospitals during the meeting for rounds learning sessions led to the development of an interactive course.

“As such, this session was born and has flourished,” said Dr. Callen, professor of medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. “Faculty at the session will present challenging cases similar to those presented at local grand rounds, which have issues that surround appropriate diagnosis and/or management.

“A patient is presented and then a question regarding diagnosis, the next step in evaluation, or management is posed for the audience response. The discussion continues as the presenter sees the manner in which the audience has responded.”

Other presenters at the session will be Cindy Owen, MD, Misha Rosenbach, MD, Julie V. Schaffer, MD, and Erik Stratman, MD.

Attendees can earn 20 MOC credit hours at the session, which will be presented from 2 to 5 p.m. in Ballroom A.
